During the class, I spoke at length with the CPS technicians who run the certification courses about car seat safety and best practices, and I personally installed more than 15 different seats. I also interviewed representatives from six leading car seat manufacturers, including CEOs, product managers, engineers, and safety technicians from Britax, Chicco, Graco, and Diono. I talked to dozens of parents about their car seat experiences, scanned hundreds of Amazon reviews, and read articles from reputable sites such as Consumer Reports , BabyGearLab , and Car Seats for the Littles before recruiting five Maryland families in addition to my own to try a variety of convertible car seats over a period of several months. Once we had identified the seats that performed best during real-world commutes, tantrums, and potty training accidents, we commissioned Calspan, a Buffalo, New York, laboratory that runs much of the car seat crash-testing in the country, to run tests specifically for this story. She does note, however, that a car’s headrest may need to be removed if it pushes the KidFit headrest forward — a potential compatibility problem in cars that don’t have removable headrests. NHTSA gives it four stars out of five for ease of use, citing only needed assembly and labeling that doesn’t show the high-back-to-backless conversion. The Chicco KidFit has two integrated cupholders, but since they’re made of flexible rubber, they can be pushed inward if parents need the space — a particular concern when car seats are installed side by side.
It also has a narrow enough base that most kids can buckle themselves in independently, reviewers say. The seat cover is removable but the process is tricky, according to CarSeatBlog. If that’s a concern, a convenient zip-off cover is available by upgrading to the KidFit Zip Est.

Vehicle and car seat manufacturers have guidelines regarding the maximum weight of child that the UAS may be used for.
